..My
name is Kathy Porter and I am the founder of the Central
Georgia Paranormal Society.
This is how I introduce
myself to perspective clients when I write and ask permission
to investigate their businesses. Now, when I tell people in person
that I am a paranormal
investigator that will either elicit a blank stare, nervous laugh
or great enthusiasm. ..I grew up in a rural town in the Hudson Valley region of upstate New York. I lived next to a cemetery which some might find weird, but I found fascinating. But, that’s not what sparked my interest in paranormal phenomena. The house I grew up in was built in the 1800’s and went through incarnations such as local post office and general store before it became a private residence. Several townspeople said they had been born in that house! When my younger brother, Ken, and I were teenagers we became aware of an “unseen” resident of our abode. ..Objects would fly across the room without anyone touching them, doors would open and close of their own volition and I heard a female voice in the night calling out my dog’s name. My brother Ken actually saw “her” one day outside his bedroom door. He felt as though someone was watching him and he went to the door. He was started by a girl standing right outside who he thought was me. He was so startled, he jumped back into the room. His surprise turned to anger as he thought I was trying to scare him and he yelled at me. ..However, my mother confirmed that I was nowhere near his room, and in fact I had been down in the dining room with her the whole time. As he thought about this, he realized, in his calmer state of mind, that the “girl’ had long blond hair in ringlets and a Victorian looking dress on- he had indeed seen our ghost whom we dubbed “Victoria”. In 1994 we moved to Georgia and Victoria seemed to have moved on as well. Upon visiting our old home we no longer feel her presence and my mom confirmed that all unusual activity ceased after we left. I now believe that our ghost was a product of poltergeist activity. “Poltergeist” comes from the German and means “noisy ghost”. The widely accepted theory is that such activity focuses around adolescents and may be a product of the increased anxiety associated with the pubescent years. Teens make focus and project energy into their surroundings - almost always subconsciously I may add.
..Project ahead to December 7, 2007. After the renowned success of sci-fi channels “Ghost Hunters” interest in the paranormal soared. I had a group of friends that watched the show and we would often muse about what it would be like to be “ghost hunters”. That’s when I decided to put words into action and invited anyone interested to join the newly formed Central Georgia Paranormal Society (CGPS). The interest was great and we had our first investigation at a local church. ..I decided to use The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) of TV’s “Ghost Hunters” as our model for how to actually do an investigation. Hence we use hand held video cameras, digital audio recorders and digital cameras to collect evidence of any paranormal activity in a residence or place of business. We attempt to look at a client’s claims, such as apparitions, voices, shadows, creepy feelings, in light of what normal, everyday cause may be responsible. In other words, we first seek to debunk any paranormal reasons for activity. We look for rattling pipes, wind, or faulty wiring that might cause lights to turn on or off by themselves. If we can’t explain it, then we start looking for paranormal (outside the realm of normal experience) for explanations. Our goal is always to provide support and comfort - free of charge - to any and all people that call on us for help. This often includes reassuring them that they are not crazy and that there are things going on in their homes or businesses.
..Over the past year we’ve been able to provide this help to some wonderful people. I’ve been asked, “Do you ever do demonic cases?” To which I say, yes, since I am dedicated to helping anyone who needs it. We did a case at a historic Inn and Tavern where there was an entity in the basement denoted as “hostile’. As a practice, my group prays and uses holy water before and after each case. However, while none of us felt any malevolence during the investigation, a loud, guttural, growl was noted on the video. The sound emanated from very close to the video camera and yet neither the investigator with the camera, nor myself seated 5 feet away heard it in real time, as noted that neither of us reacted to it on camera. Was it the “elemental” or hostile spirit? Possibly.
..Whatever it was, it was unseen, unheard and not happy that we were there. Most of our other cases involved clients hearing voices, seeing shadows or having objects disappear and re-appear somewhere else. Even these have yielded surprises. In two of the cases, we got the opposite of what we thought. In one local business, the client claimed the name “I am Joseph…” appeared over and over again by itself across her computer screen. So, we went in looking for “Joseph” and asking him to communicate with us. What we got on audio was a “female” voice saying “Please I’m frightened and alone.” Surprise! On another residential case we were searching for a “female” who died in the house, but we got audio of a “male” saying,”They’re not here.” The client was amused and stated she will call us in the future to see who ‘is’ there.
..Still, 7 of us loaded up in Covington Ga and drove to Auburn. During the initial tour of the residence we all “felt” some sort of presence but again, nothing malevolent. Very reassuring as we were all going to sleep in this house overnight! During the night we all had personal experiences. After my brother Ken and I said The Lord’s Prayer in the master bedroom we caught a shadow in 2 photos that we as yet cannot explain. We all saw a door open on its own volition and heard bangs and voices in the kitchen. We are still reviewing evidence, but have already come up with several EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomena that audio recorders pickup, yet are not usually heard in real time). I believe we will find this to be our most active case to date.
..In all, I am honored to be the founder of a wonderful group of people who are not only dedicated and passionate about paranormal research, but about helping people in need. We have a website where our cases can be reviewed and some EVPs listened to. Please check out our OFFICIAL WEBSITE: {cgparanormal.com} or CONTACT US DIRECTLY: 404-861-9117. Thanks for letting me ramble a bit. Call us if you or anyone needs help. Oh yeah, thanks to Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes- founders of TAPS. I owe ya!
