Karma is
an imprint in one's Mind. When one performs a good
deed out of good intentions, the good intentions come Watch your
thoughts, for they become words. A person's karma affects a person in 2 ways. The first is his disposition. If a person is an angry one, performing many deeds with anger, his mind will be imprinted with experiences and intentions of anger. Because of this imprint, in a similar situation, he would be more likely to feel angry. In a sense, the imprint creates and reinforces a sort of mental habit that causes a person's mind to react in a certain pre-disposed way. ..The
second and more important way karma affects a person is by affecting
his experience. Our experiences, our feelings of joy or sufferings,
come mainly from our reaction to perceptual inputs. Taking
our angry guy as
an example, in many situations, he feels offended, angry and that
seriously affects his state of mind. He often feels the pain of anger,
very little
peace. But if that person practices meditation, develops his mind,
etc, such that he develops peace and love. He may live the
same life
all over and he may not experience the anger or the pain of anger
etc. in those same situations. In a sense, his karma is one of the
main
determinants of his experiences. In this sense too, we may
say that our sufferings
comes from our karma and our states of mind. ..CAN
YOU CHANGE KARMA?..Your soul is on a journey. Karmic situations in which you find yourself today are both your soul's mirror and travel guide. Karma can show you where you've been and where you might go to learn the lessons you've chosen for this lifetime. Through understanding your unique destiny, you can adjust your actions to either change an ongoing situation, or gain new perspective on a past situation so you can avoid making the same mistake twice. By understanding karma, you can unlock the patterns from past lives and show you how to use the laws of karma to consciously choose a better path for this life and the next. ..The theory of karma harps on the Newtonian principle that every action produces an equal and opposite reaction. Every time we think or do something, we create a cause, which in time will bear its corresponding effects. And this cyclical cause and effect generates the concepts of (or the world) and birth and reincarnation. It is the personality of a human being with its positive and negative actions - that causes karma. Karma could be both the activities of the body or the mind, irrespective of the consideration whether the performance brings fruition immediately or at a later stage. However, the involuntary or the reflex actions of the body cannot be called karma. ..YOUR KARMA IS YOUR OWN DOING. ..Every person is responsible for his or her acts and thoughts, so each person's karma is entirely his or her own. They are no one else's. Occidentals see the operation of karma as fatalistic. But that is far from true since it is in the hands of an individual to shape his own future by schooling his present. Many believe in life after death, which holds the doctrine that if the karma of an individual is good enough, the next birth will be rewarding, and if not, the person may actually devolve and degenerate into a lower life form or repeat to learn what the need too. ..THE FOUR LAWS OF KARMA. ..Results are similar to the cause. Simply said, when I cause other people harm, I will harvest suffering myself. It is important to note here, that "positive" actions are defined as actions that have happiness as a result; "negative" actions are defined as actions that lead to suffering as a result. No results without a cause. As is obvious within science, things do not just appear out of nothing. Once an action is done, the result is never lost. Similarly as above, things do not just disappear into nothing. Karma expands. Once we have an imprint of an action in our mind, it tends to be habit-forming. As is often said in wars for example, killing the first enemy is tough, but after a handful, one quickly loses count and it becomes "normal". Also... psychology often stresses a similar point when e.g. explaining actions of adults from their childhood experiences. ..WHAT CAN I DO TO REMOVE PREVIOUS NEGATIVE KARMA? ..Nobody likes to suffer, so we all like to rid ourselves of negative karmic potential. There are several possibilities, and in fact we may need to try and apply all of these methods as much as we can: To avoid having negative thoughts that lead to negative actions in the future, we need to observe and control our own thoughts and behavior, and destroy our negative attitudes. Similarly, we can observe / study (meditate) our own mind and encourage positive thoughts that lead to positive actions. We can avoid negative karmic seeds to ripen by purifying it, using the four powers of purification (see below). Although this does not eliminate the negative karmic actions, it can avoid the results to occur. Ultimately, when we realize emptiness directly, and remove all our delusions, we are not under the control of past karma anymore. ..Thank
